Why do Jewish soldiers die in battle?
In Yehoshua’s time, one of his righteous soldiers died in battle and he cried out to Hashem asking why. The answer was: “Israel has sinned”. Upon investigation, it was due to the sin of one unscrupulous man. Similarly this year during Yom Kippur prayer services, a vehemently anti-Torah woman and her group caused a chillul Hashem that has brought Divine punishment upon the Jewish nation.

The pilot soars, the submariner inside the steel fish, the tanker spitting out fire, the paratrooper spreading his wings, and the foot soldier with “boots on the ground” charging to victory. But also, those who are not in the military have their duty to perform – to pray for the welfare of our nation’s sons and daughters.
